Our History

Founded by Casper Leon Benton, C.L. Benton & Sons has been providing heavy construction services along coastal Carolina since the 1920s. Casper Benton built the Pine Lakes golf course and assisted in the construction of the course at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. When Casper’s son James and Leon joined the business, they worked on a third golf course – Myrtlewood. James eventually took over the family business and incorporated C.L. Benton and Sons in 1964. James’ sons Carson and Lawton joined the Company in 1983 and have worked diligently to keep the business thriving for future generations.

Currently, the working scope of the business is broad. This scope includes road construction; water & sewer installation; pile driving (both timber and sheet piling), and beach renourishment. Due to this breadth of expertise, C.L. Benton & Sons has the ability to work on a variety of projects, including golf courses, housing subdivisions, airports, malls, and restaurants. Most of the site work pertains to the Grand Strand but the pile-driving division works on projects throughout the state.
